Cobblestone Placemaking's Approach...

Placemaking can be defined as “a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design, and management of public spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community’s assets, inspiration, and potential, ultimately creating good public spaces that promote peoples' health, happiness, and well-being. Placemaking is both a process and a philosophy.” Cobblestone builds upon this concept by incorporating three main techniques: design, policy, and programming.  Successful places are not achieved through single-track methods, but through integrated approaches which provide opportunities for creative ideas to be implemented, allowing places to form organically. We look to the principles embedded within the spirit of successful places – Design, Comfort, Distinctiveness, and Access – to inform our approach. From there, we create a design and implementation plan that ultimately results in a one-of-a-kind place… one that is successful, vibrant, and memorable. Whether through the design of a Complete Street, written policies that implement a form-based zoning code Downtown, or through programs that bring pop-up retail into challenged neighborhoods, Cobblestone maintains a pragmatic philosophy to ensure projects are able to be completed. With a knack for visual articulation, and a passion for distinct experiences, Cobblestone is committed to improving the built environment through Placemaking.
